I guess this week is turning into improving transportation…

Monday: Zero gravity treadmill
Tuesday: Gait Lab
Wednesday: Segway Training

At the hospital they are always looking for way to improve your quality of life, gain independence, and become more efficient. The Segway is one option to tackle all three of these desires.

A Segway has a gyroscope at the base that continually pushes itself upright. Then when you lean forward in order to keep itself upright it pushes you in the direction of you are leaning. We weren’t sure if Taylor was going to be able to ride a Segway because of the constant leaning forward or backwards. Our worries were, the knee was going to collapse due to the extensive amount of weight on either of toe or the heel. The physicians could only speculate whether it would work so we gave it a shot. It worked A LOT better than we anticipated… Segway tours through DC here we come! Only a few more training lessons and a visit to the Montgomery Police Station for the final driving test then we are Segway approved!

  1. Wendy says:

Looking Good! I work in downtown DC and Taylor, trust me when I say, you handle that Segway better than any tourist I have seen. Kudos to you!

  2. Lois Marie Ross says:

This is really great! I know it has to be a lot harder to master than you make it look, but then you continue to conquer so many things. Congratulations!
