I would tried to explain the journey we took in deciding whether to go to New York today for the Yankee/Red Sox game but I would I no idea where to begin. Travis and Kelsey Mills were going up with us so we needed to collaborate and make a decision. After going back and forth for hours with Travis and Kelsey Mills, we FINALLY took the plunge at 9:30pm last night and headed up to New York. We quickly packed the van up with Travis and Taylor’s wheelchairs, legs, arms, luggage, and movies for the boys to watch on the way up. It was a packed van! It took both Kelsey and myself to close the trunk to make sure a leg or arm didn’t slip off the pile and come crashing to the ground. The boys ended up getting two movies in while Kelsey and I took turns driving through the night. We ended up getting to New York City around 2am, just in time for our heavy eyes to hit the pillow to dream out Opening Day!!

In the end, after A LOT of back and forth when determining whether to make a quick 22 hour turnaround from DC to New York and back, I’m glad we did it! We are only young once and who doesn’t like to cheer for the home team with a bunch of friends. Kelsey, Travis, Taylor, and I met four of our other friends from the hospital at the game. We ended up getting all of our seats together with lots and lots of help from All32in17. I feel blessed that Taylor and I have made so many good friends during this last year of hospital life. We laughed and joked while teasing each other about who’s team was going to come out on top. Unfortunately, we had to get on the road a slightly before the game was over in hopes to beat traffic and get Kelsey and Travis home to their little girl. I have come to find that traffic is nearly impossible to avoid, we hit a little traffic jam leaving the city… stop and go… stop and go… Kelsey and the boys took a little cat nap and woke up with plenty of energy to blast the tunes and belt out the lyrics song after song! This karaoke session made the drive fly by; all four road warriors made it back to the hospital safe and sound, less than 24 hours from when we pull off base to begin this excursion! In my eyes well worth the world wind trip!
