I am going to make this short and sweet tonight, simply because it is late, I’m tired, and oh so excited to sleep in a real bed (we are in the outpatient apartments tonight)!!!

Today’s appointments went well today.  To touch on the high points of the daily wind and grind of appointments at Walter Reed…

Taylor’s right leg got casted for a prosthetic.  Yup that’s right everything has been casted and come Monday morning he will have the actual prosthetics for each limb; although he still won’t be able to use his left leg due to the surgery to abstract the puss pocket on Tuesday.

Another fun occurrence for the day, Taylor spent his OT time eating lunch with 2 other patients whom are a double hand amputee.  All three boys worked with their prosthetics to eat their entire lunch.  At one point each one of them emphasizes how hard of a workout it was.  It was good for everyone to work on with their arm prosthetics in accompany of another who was facing the same challenges.  We asked to make this a continuous therapy session once a week.  Once the prosthetic movement becomes more second nature, the boys will be able to chat more but for the time being the conversation was limited to what techniques worked for them.  Team effort!

Tonight Taylor and I walked to the CVS and bought a pill sorter, since we will have a weekend pass through Monday.  One step closer to fully becoming outpatient status.  We spent most of the evening unpacking boxes at the apartment, making the next phase of our life as organized as possible.  We put a huge dent into the unpacking but still have more to do throughout the weekend.  For now…BEDTIME in a REAL BED!!!

Wonderful news! Group lunches sound like a great way to share what is working and what is not, plus resolving frustrations. Hooray for freedom of your own place and some privacy. Hope that you have a great weekend. Blessing and prayers from California.

Sounds like he's got some excellent medical care. So glad to hear that we've come a long way as far as that's concerned. Congrats on the new place. One step closer to home!
