First night in the apartment

I always thought I was getting pretty good sleep at the hospital.  The majority of the time we tried to go to bed so we would get 7 or 8 hours of sleep.  Yeah, we woke up occassionally when nurses or doctors came in…and yeah, my bed consisted of a chair that transforms into a cot…BUT I totally forgot how refreshing it was to wake up in a real bed after a solid night of sleep with no interruptions!! We weren’t even shaken by the rain, wind, and thunder that was going on throughout the night; leaving 70,000+ without power. Nothing was going to stop us from getitng a good night sleep in a real bed.

With a great night of sleep under our belts, we woke up ready for the day.  We went over to the gym to get a workout in.  I ran on the treadmill while Taylor did some core work.  After my run, I came over to the mat where Taylor was stretching and had him put me through an AB workout (he was not nice; ouch!)

After the workout, Taylor and I were feeling good about beginning on our own, getting a good night sleep, and working out; so we went to the Warrior Cafe to get a HUGE container of fresh fruit.  It was so good! Taylor and I are pretty pumped about the cafe located in the apartment building.  We will have access to fresh fruits and vegetables!

We spent the entire afternoon hanging out with our good friends Jon and Kaelyn!  They drove up from Virginia Beach.  Unfortunately they got stuck in horrible traffic.  It turned their 3 hour road trip into almost 5 hours.  None the less, it was awesome to see them! On top of that they came bearing gifts, ingredients for NACHOS!!  Good friends, great conversations, and nachos…what could be better?

After they hit the road (praying they didn’t hit traffic again), Taylor and I went to run a few errands.  Although the storm had knocked out all the traffic lights and it was mass confusion in the intersections, we survived the drive.  We made a Target run to get the essential for the apartment (toilet paper, laundry detergent, hangers, etc).  Then we continued the search for some new clothes for Taylor.  It was a success! We were able to find some khaki shorts and dress shirts for our big night at the White House!!

Overall, successful day!  No doubt about it, we can make it on our own!

Today was the first day we did not step foot into the hospital!!

Just a note to convey our good thoughts for your healing and continued recovery. It's a small world – I worked with your mom at John Deere and had the good fortune to have Danielle in class at Iowa. Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers. Hope you enjoyed the 4th! Kevin and Mary Jo.
